The Poás volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. It has erupted 40 times since 1828, with its last eruption in 2019 during September 22 and 23, the eruption columns expanded 1 km, the most shocking eruption occurred in 2017, this explosion on April 12 caused officials of the park had to close the park to visitors, some nearby residents were also evacuated. On April 14, 2017, two eruptions at 07:39 and 07:57 created a column of ash and steam more than three kilometers long. The main crater, one of the largest in the world, has a diameter of 1.320 metres and a depth of 300 meters and is filled with an acidic turquoise lake. Visitors can witness the steam and gas emanating from the fumaroles, giving a glimpse into the dynamic nature of the volcano. The surrounding landscape is characterized by volcanic rock formations and sulfur-rich soils, creating a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere.
